I was initially trained as an Engineer working as a Project Engineer and Consultant within the steel, power and marine industries. In the latter part of my engineering career I specialised in the safety of seagoing passenger vessels along with parallel work as an Industrial Archaeologist.
I started lecturing in 2001. In 2003, with an increasing interest in learning difficulties, I took the decision to specialise in Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD). In this role I have gained considerable experience as a Dyslexia Support Tutor working with university students and clients from commerce and industry. As SpLD Officer (Senior Lecturer) at the University of Wales, Newport, I also gained experience of HE policy and planning.
I have a Masters degree in Industrial Archaeology, a Post Graduate Certificate in Special Educational Needs and a Further Adult Education Teaching Certificate. I also hold numerous qualifications, to Level 4, in Engineering, Construction and Design.
I am an Associate Member of PATOSS and Member of ADSHE(W).
